Doodle Alley

Rating: 4.5/5 – A treasure trove of info for aspiring artists

Billed as a “Picture Blog About Sustainable Creativity”, artist Stephen McCranie set up this blog to encourage a dialogue between artists and creative types about what habits and practices are most conducive to the creative process.  Tips, tricks, and life lessons abound.

What’s Awesome About It?
A lot of really thought provoking articles all in comic-strip form about the creative process organized (so far) mostly into the two broad categories “Set Goals and Make Plans” and “On Improvement”.  An easy to read and very engaging style, each installment is kept to a very digestible size and stays on point.  Main improvement that could be made is navigation between the pages, when you get to the end of one topic having a link to the next would be nice.

My Thoughts
I’m not a creator but I’m fascinated by the creative process.  When I interview creators I always ask about the creative process, it’s something that each person seems to approach a bit differently.  Seeing the principles McCranie has come to believe are core to building a sustainable lifestyle laid out in such a clear fashion is captivating.  Reading the comments by other creators on each topic is almost as interesting as the illustrated lessons themselves.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in the creative process.
