The Fifth Circle – AFRIJAMS! (Jumbletron’s Peace Corps Experience)

Rating: 4/5 – There’s a lot of heart in this webcomic…

Jubal Faircloth decided to document his peace corps experience in Senegal, Africa in a daily autobiographical comic.

What’s Awesome About It?
The first hand observations Jubal shares with us are in turns funny, informative, poignant, and always displaying a lot of heart.  I’m certainly not going to become a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa so this is something I’ll never participate in directly.  Being able to join Jubal on this journey and share in it with him through his art is a really wonderful experience.

My Thoughts
The art is a bit rough around the edges but that is part of the charm of this strip.  It reminds me of some of James Kochalka’s autobiographical comics, it’s all about the storytelling.  Jubal’s use of color is wonderful and it sets this strip apart from many other autobio strips I’ve read that have all been black & white.

The main thing I’d like to see added is some better navigation in the web-site, with the story broken up into chapters (or months) and an ability to pop into the narrative at various points.  This is highly recommended!
